- 6 tablespoons butter or chicken fat
- 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 1/2 cups (12-ounces) seasoned Chicken broth
- 1 cup (8-ounces) cream or milk
- 2 cups cooked chicken, cut into pieces
- 1/2 cup green pepper, chopped
- 1/4 cup pimiento, chopped
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms, sautéed
- 2 tablespoons light wine, optional
- 3/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted, optional

- Lemon Curd Layer Cake perfect winter dessert
- to to goes with a lot of things, from toast in the morning to ice cream right before bed, but I love this layer cake idea. The authors remind us that you can make the curd in an ordinary saucepan, no need to put it over a bain-marie or double boiler.
- LEMON CURD LAYER CAKE
- 3 3 3 large egg yolks
- 1/2 1/2 1/2 cup superfine sugar
- 3 grated zest of 3 lemons
- 1/3 1/3 1/3 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 1/2 1/2 stick unsalted butter
- For the cake:
- 2 2 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened, plus extra for greasing
- 1 1/8 1 1/8 1/8 cups superfine sugar
- 2 grated zest of 2 lemons
- 4 4 4 free-range eggs at room temperature, beaten
- 1 3/4 1 3/4 3/4 cups self-rising flour
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Strawberries or blueberries, for garnish
