- 1 15-ounce can black beans, or pinto beans, rinsed (see Note)

STEP 1 Soften bread thoroughly in milk in a large bowl
- 2 slices white or other soft bread, torn into bite-size pieces
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 pound ground beef chuck

- 6 thin slices pancetta (2 1/2 ounces), finely diced
- 1/2 small onion, minced (1/3 cup)
- 2 large egg yolks, lightly beaten

- 6 to 7 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup Imperial Sugar® / Dixie Crystals® Granulated Sugar
- 2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 cups 2% milk
- 1/2 cup butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup water
- 6 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 can (12 ounces) raspberry and/or apricot cake and pastry filling
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 to 6 tablespoons 2% milk
Spicy Seared Eggplant

Sprinkle the eggplant slices with salt, place in a colander set over a bowl, and let stand for 30 minutes
- Prep: 20 minutes Total: 50 minutes
- Salting the eggplant removes some of its water, which makes for better grilling.
- 1 medium eggplant, about 1 pound, cut crosswise into 8 slices, each about 3/4 inch thick
