Ingredients
- 4 quarts water
- 1 1/2 tsbp salt
- 2 1/2 cups tomato juice
- Avaialbale beef stock or bones
- 1/2 cup beef consomme
- 1 1/2 cup barley
- 3 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery ribs, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cups potatoes chopped
- 1 parsnip, chopped
- 1 rutabegga, chopped
- 1 can (28 0z) chopped tomatoes
- 1 can corn
- 1 cup green beans
- 1 cup peas

Preparation
Step 1
Boil water, salt, tomato juice and beef stock. add barley, carrots, celery, onion, potatoes, parsnip and rutabegga. Simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Add chopped tomatoes, corn, green beans and peas.
Serve when heated.
