Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/3 cup flour (all purpose)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 3/4 cup chopped nuts

Preparation
Step 1
Place chopped dates in bowl; add baking soda; Pour boiling water over dates. Mix well. Let stand to cool.
Beat egg till light. Add sugar gradually, beating between additions.
Add salt and vanilla. Combine with cooled date mixure.
Stir in flour and baking powder, then add cooled melted butter and nuts.
Mix well. Pour into a well-greased loaf pan.
Bake at 350F for 50 to 60 minutes.
