Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1 spice cake mix
- 1 (16 ounce) can apple pie filling
- 1/2 cup oil
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- Frosting:
- 1 stick margarine
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla or maple extract

Preparation
Step 1
Cake:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine cake mix, pie filling, oil and eggs. With electric mixer, beat on low speed for 1 minute or until ingredients are moistened. Continue beating on medium speed for another 2 minutes. Stir in nuts. Pour batter into greased and floured 9 x 13" cake pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool.
Caramel Frosting:
In sauce pan,combine brown sugar and margarine. Cook over low heat until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Cool. Beat cream cheese and add sugar and margarine mixture. Beat in powdered sugar and extract. Frost cake and refrigerate.
