Smoky Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 canned chipotle chilies in adobo, plus 1 Tbsp sauce
  • 2 cups canned tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced onion
  • 3 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1 tsp grated orange zest
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt, plus extra to taste

Preparation

Step 1

1. combine all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth.

2. transfer puree to a med saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer until sauce no longer tastes raw, about 5 minutes. Season with salt to taste. Pour sauce into 2 freshly washed and dried jars. Sauce will keep in the fridge for up to 1 month.
