APPLE PIE

Ingredients
- 5 to 6 C baking apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (approximately 6 to 7 apples)
- 3/4 to 1 C sugar
- 2 T flour
- Dash of salt
- 1/2 to 1 t ground cinnamon
- 1/4 t ground nutmeg
- 2 T butter, firm and cut in to small pieces
- 1 recipe (double crust) pie crust dough

Step 1
1. Line a 9" deep dish or a 10" diameter pie plate with pastry.
2. Combine sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg until thoroughly blended; mix with thinly sliced apples until all apples are coated evenly.
3. Fill crust-lined pie plate with apple mixture. Dot filling with butter pieces. Wet rim of pastry with a small amount of cold water.
4. Position top crust over apple filling with approximately 1" of dough extended over the rim of the pan.
5. Press top and bottom crust together well to seal.
6. Fold top crust under bottom crust along the edge of the pie and flute edges.
7. Slash top crust with your own design or prick with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.
8. Place pie on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for approximately 45 to 50 minutes until pie is golden brown and apples are tender.
9. Remove pie from oven and allow to cool on a wire rack for 2 to 3 hours before cutting
10. If desired, sprinkle top surface of pie with a cinnamon sugar mixture immediately upon removal from oven.
