Ingredients

  • 3/4 c shortening
  • 2 c flour
  • 1 tsp bp
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/4 c water (approx)
  • 6 to 8 apples (depending on size)
  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 1 tbs lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon rind
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Step 1

With a pastry blender, mix shortening, flour, bp and 1/2 c sugar.
Add water to the beaten egg to measure 1/4 cup and mix with above ing. (makes a crumbly dough)

Peel, core and slice the apples. Mix the 3/4 cup sugar with the cinnamon and add to the apples, with the lemon juice and lemon rind.

Roll out half the dough into a greased and floured 9 x 13 pan. Add the apple mixture and top with remaining rolled dough.

Sprinkle with a sugar/cinnamon mix and bake at 350 degrees until brown (45 to 60 minutes)
