Macaroni and Cheese (w/ Breadcrumbs)

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg Elbows, uncooked
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 1/2 c butter or margarine
  • 6 T all-purpose flour
  • 4 c milk
  • 4 c shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/2 c fresh bread crumbs

Preparation

Step 1

Prepare pasta as directed, cooking only 6 minutes, drain.

Cook and stir onion in 6 T of the butter until tender. Stir in flour.
Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Stir in cheese, mustard, salt and pepper.

Mix pasta and sauce in a very large bowl. Pour into 13x9 in pan. Melt remaining 2 T butter. Stir in bread crumbs; sprinkle over pasta.

Bake at 350° for 35 min or until lightly browned.
