Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 T. all-purpose flour
  • 1 t. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 t. ground ginger
  • 1/4 t. ground nutmeg
  • 7-8 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1 T. lemon juice
  • Pastry for double crust pie
  • 1 T. butter
  • 1 egg white
  • Additional sugar

Preparation

Step 1

In a small bowl comnbine the sugars, flour and spices.
In a large bowl toss apples with lemon juice. Toss well.
Line a 9” pie pan with pastry. Place apple filling on crust,
Dot with butter. Top with remaining crust.
Beat the egg white until foamy, brush over pastry.
Sprinkle sugar on top.
Bake at 375’ for 35 minutes. Increase temperature tp 400’
Bake an additional 15-20 minutes.
