Crock Pot BBQ Pulled Pork

Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork in the Slow Cooker. It taste like you paid restaurant prices but it is CHEAP! The pork came out of the slow cooker super juicy and completely falling apart.

Ingredients

  • 3-5 lb pork butt (also known as a pork shoulder)
  • 12 oz. (1 can) Dr. Pepper (or any caramel colored soda pop, each will provide a slightly different flavor)
  • 1 medium onion, cut in quarters and then again in half
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dry ground mustard
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (depending on personal taste.)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • bbq sauce of choice
  • rolls or buns of choice
  • Pickles for the side

Directions:

Generously rub the pork roast with salt and pepper and brown sugar. Put the onions in the bottom of a slow cooker then set the roast on top of the onions. Add all remaining ingredients and ONLY HALF of the BBQ sauce. (Reserve the rest of the BBQ sauce for saucing your bun.) Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, or until it easily pulls apart.

Remove the meat from the crock pot and shred or you can shred the pork roast right inside the crock pot. YES, IT IS THAT TENDER!!
Serve shredded pork on buns with reserved sauce and top with pickles and onions.

It goes well with freshly homemade CRISPY French fries.
