Ingredients

  • 8 cups flour
  • 8 tspn baking powder
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening (Crisco)
  • 4 1/2 Tbspn Lemon extract
  • ICING
  • 1 (10-0z) box confectioners' sugar
  • 4 1/2 Tbspn lemon extract
  • Dash milk

Step 1

Set oven 350. In large bowl, sift together flour and baking powder. In another large bowl, beat together eggs with sugar. When fluffy and light, add milk, vegetable shortening and lemon extract to egg mixture and beat well. Combine wet and the dry ingredients AND STIR WITH A WOODEN SPOON. When dough is smooth, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour. Remove dough from refrigerator. Cut dough into (4) pieces. Roll out pieces into strands. Pinch off cookies (about 2 tblsn) roll out and tie into a knot. Place cookies 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. DO NOT LET THEM BROWN and cool cookie. Combine all icing ingredients in a large bowl and whisk until smooth while adding milk a few drops at a time. Dip cookies into icing and add sprinkles, then place a rack until icing hardens.
