Preparation

Step 1

In a large saute pan over medium high heat, combine canola oil, bell peppers, jalapeno and onion then cook 5 minutes. Add beef and pork, cook thoroughly, breaking up meat as it browns. Add garlic and drain any residual grease. Deglaze with red wine and stir in remaining Sloppy Joe ingredients, except rolls, then season with 1 tablespoon salt and freshly ground pepper. Reduce heat and simmer 20-30 minutes. If the sauce gets too thick as it simmers, add up to 1 cup of water to adjust consistency. Toast rolls and set aside. Heat French fried onions in a toaster or regular oven, but do not microwave. Serve Sloppy Joes, topped with fried onions, on toasted rolls.
