Overnight Apple Pie French Toast

  • 6 T butter
  • 6 c gala apples
  • 1 T fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/4 t apple pie spice
  • 3/4 lb French bread cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 2 c whole milk
  • 2/3 c sugar
  • 2 t vanilla
  • 1/8 t salt
  • 8 lg eggs
  • Maple syrup
  • powdered sugar

Step 1

Melt 2 T butter, and cook apples 2 min. Reduce heat and cover and cook 8 min or until tender. Stir in lemon juice and 1 t apple pie spice.
Spray 9x13 pan. Arrange half the bread, overlapping slices. Arrange apple mixture over top, and top with remaining bread. In lg bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, vanilla, salt and eggs. Pour over bread. Press with spatula. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours.
Preheat oven to 350. Combine remaining 4 T butter and ¼ apple pie spice Cook 3 minutes until melted. Uncover toast and drizzle with butter mixture. Bake uncovered 35-40 min. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup.
