  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 medium cabbage, finely shredded or chopped (4 cups)
  • 1 small carrot, shredded (1/2 cup)
  • 1 small onion, chopped (1/4 cup)

  • 2 quarts liquid, at least 3/4 of it chicken broth

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
