1928 Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

This recipe is adapted from the cookbook entitled "Southern Cooking" by Mrs
- 2 1/2 cups of All-Purpose Flour
- 2 cups of Strawberries prepared with sugar.
- 3/4 cup of Whole Milk
- 1/3 cup of Shortening, Crisco etc.
- 1 Egg
- 4 teaspoons of Baking Powder
- 2 Tablespoons of Sugar
- 1 teaspoon of Salt
- 1 container of Cool Whip or Whipped Cream of choice.
Instant Pot Blood Orange Marmalade

- 4 whole blood oranges
- 1 lemon, juice of
- 1.5 x weight of fruit in caster sugar
Hungarian Goulash

Preheat the oven to 140oC/Gas Mark 1
- 700 g of steak pieces
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 1 clove of garlic, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 generous tablespoon of flour
- 1 generous tablespoon of Hungarian paprika
- 400 g tin of chopped tomatoes
- A good pinch of sea salt and black pepper
- A little sour cream to serve
Bacon´n Cheese Quiche

Heat oven to 350°F. Place pie crust in 9-inch glass pie plate as directed on box for One-Crust Filled Pie
- 1 Pillsbury™ refrigerated pie crust, softened as directed on box
- 1 cup half-and-half or milk
- 4 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 8 slices bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled
- 1 cup shredded Swiss or Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped onion, if desired
Navajo Fry Bread - Indian Tacos

For the Fry Bread: Sift together the flour, salt, powdered milk, and baking powder into a large bowl
- FRY BREAD:
- 1 cup unbleached flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon powdered milk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup water
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Extra flour to flour your hands
- TO MAKE TACOS:
- 1 pound lean ground meat (beef, lamb, venison or pork)
- 1 cup diced onion
- 4 cooked Navajo Fry Breads (see recipe above)
- 1 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1 (3-ounce) can diced green chiles, drained
- Sour cream (optional)

- for the gravy:
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 8 oz. sliced portabella mushrooms [or your favorite]
- 1 14 oz. can low sodium beef broth
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 3 Tbs. chili sauce
- 1 Tbs. steak sauce
- 1 tsp. Kansas City steak seasoning [more or less to taste]
- 2-3 cloves of garlic minced
