- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoon baking soda

- 1/4 c. Butter
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 slices bacon, cut into pieces
- 3 bell peppers, diced (red, yellow, orange)

- 3 c. Chicken broth
- 2 c. Half and half
- 1 c. (Heaping) pepper jack cheese

- Buttermilk substitution:
- 2 1/2 C. flour
- 1 1/2 C. brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 C. butter
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/3 C. buttermilk
- 4 tsp. lemon juice
- 1 1/4 C. milk
- Stir together and let stand for 5 minutes before using.

- 4.5 ounces (128 grams) Valrhona 85% cacao (or any bittersweet chocolate)
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

- 1/3 cup strawberries, diced
