SUGGESTED HEALTHY SERVING SIZES FOR PEOPLE WITH DIABETES

45 to 60 grams of carbohydrates per meal is a good starting point when you are carb counting
- Appetizer dips: 1-2 Tbsp
- Beans and legumes, cooked: 1/2 cup
- Beverages: 1 cup
- Deserts: 1/2 cup, 1/8 pie
- Fruit: 1/2 cup
- Frozen desserts: 1/2 cup
- Grains and pasta side dishes: 1/2 cup
- Main dish sauces (for pasta, etc): 1/2 cup
- Meat, poultry and seafood, cooked: 3-4 ounces, about the size of a deck of cards
- One dish meals(meat, poultry, seafood, meatless), cooked 1-1 1/2 cups
- salad dressings, barbecue sauce: 2 Tbsp
- Salads: 1/2 cup fruit, grain, or bean salads: 1 1/2 to 2 cups lettuce salads
- Sauces: 2 Tbsp
