- 6 ounces semisweet chocolate
- 3/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1/3 cup flour
- 3/4 cup chopped filberts, walnuts or pecans
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee

- BUTTER PASTRY SHELL:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons cold butter
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 2 to 3 tablespoons ice water
- FILLING:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced crosswise
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup half and half
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground allspice
- 1 cup shredded Adelost, Havarti or a soft, mild white cheese
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup golden or red caviar, for garnish

In a small cup, stir the egg, egg yolk and vanilla together with a fork and set aside
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. lemon zest
- 12 Tbsp. unsalted cold butter, cut into 12 pieces

- COOKIES:
- 1 lb. unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 5 cups sifted flour, sifted
- pinch of salt
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- ICING:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
