- 3 oz. slab bacon, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup chopped sweet red pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped leek
- 1 teaspoon fresh or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh or 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 medium-sze (1 lb.) sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
- 1 cup fresh or frozen whole-kernel corn
- 1 14-1/2 ounce can chicken broth
- 3 cups water
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Fresh thyme sprigs (optional)
