- 1 ⁄2 tsp. salt
- 1 ⁄2 cup dark rum
- FOR THE MERINGUE FROSTING:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 ⁄2 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1 1⁄2 tsp. cornstarch
- 1 1⁄2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 4 egg whites
- FOR THE GARNISH (OPTIONAL):
- 16 candied violets
- 1 tbsp. shelled and unsalted pistachios,
- finely chopped
