Cookie Jar Gingersnaps

Preheat oven to 350°. Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 cups all-purpose flour

Sausage and Black Bean Soup

Pick over beans, discarding any bad ones
- 3 cups (21 oz) dried black beans
- 1 3/4 lbs chorizo or andouille sausage
- 1 T olive oil
- 4 cloves fresh garlic, finely chopped
- 2 yellow onions, finely chopped
- 2 ribs celery, finely chopped
- 2 1/2 quarts chicken stock
- 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh flat-leaf (Italian) parsley
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 T salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 T finely chopped fresh chives
- 2 T finely chopped fresh cilantro (fresh coriander)
Buffalo Chicken Party Sandwiches

Caramel Pecan Rolls

- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup Karo(r) Light Corn Syrup

- 3 cups (12 ounces) whole pecans
Zucchini Parmesan Crisps

- 1 lb. zucchini or squash (about 2 medium-sized)
- 1/4 cup shredded parmesan (heaping)

Hot Spiced Pear Salad

- 2 cans pear halves
- 1 can apricot halves
- 1 can light sweet cherries
- 1 can pineapple tidbits or chunks
- juice of one lemon
- 3/4 cup combined fruit syrup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
- 2 T margarine
