Slow Cooker Classics Saucy Italian Turkey Meatballs

Everyone loves a second helping of meatballs. So we’ve gone out of our way to create a healthier version of this Italian classic—with lean ground turkey and an herb-infused tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • For the meatballs:
  • 20 oz 93% lean ground turkey
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup basil, minced
  • 2 tbsp Smart Balance® Cooking Oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large clove garlic, crushed
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt
  • fresh black pepper, to y
  • For the sauce:
  • 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves crushed garlic
  • 1 small sprig of fresh oregano
  • salt and fresh pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh choppead basil

Directions:

In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, basil, oil, egg, garlic, salt and pepper. Gently mix all the ingredients and form into small meatballs, about 2 tablespoons each.
Place the crushed tomatoes, garlic and sprig of fresh oregano in the slow cooker.
Gently drop the meatballs into the sauce, cover and set slow cooker to low, 6 hours. When meatballs are done, adjust salt and pepper to taste and add fresh chopped basil. Serve over pasta or with Italian bread on the side.
