Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 pounds Stew meat cut into 1" pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Shortening
  • 6 cups Hot Water
  • 5 Potatoes -- cut into 1" cubes
  • 6 Carrots -- cut into 1" cubes
  • 4 Celery -- cut into 1" pieces
  • 1 Medium Onion -- Chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon Kitchen Bouquet

Preparation

Step 1

Mix flour, 1 tsp. salt, and the pepper. Coat meat with flour mixture. Melt shortening in large pan; brown meat thoroughly. Add water; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 2 hours. Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender, remove the bay leaves. Thicken with 1/4 c. flour mixed with 1/2 c, cool water, stir into stew add the kitchen bouquet. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 min.
