Ingredients

  • 1

    teaspoon olive oil

  • 1

    pound 93% lean ground turkey

  • ½

cup yellow onion diced (about ½ an onion)

  • ½

cup green bell pepper diced (about ½ a pepper)

  • 1

    carrot peeled and minced

  • 1

    tablespoon tomato paste

  • ¾

    cup ketchup

  • 3

    tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1

    tablespoon white vinegar

  • 1

    tablespoon yellow mustard

  • ½

    teaspoon hot sauce optional

  • teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1

    teaspoon salt

Directions

Turkey Sloppy Joes Heat a large skillet over medium heat, add in oil. Once hot, stir in turkey, onion, pepper, and carrot. Cook, breaking up the turkey as you go, until the turkey is cooked and veggies are soft, about 7 minutes. While above is cooking, whisk together the remaining ingredients for the sauce: tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, mustard, hot sauce, garlic powder, and salt. Stir the sauce into the turkey/veggie mixture and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to keep at a simmer for about 3-5 minutes or until sauce has thickened slightly. Taste and re-season if necessary. Assembly Preheat broiler. Place the bottom buns on a rimmed 9x13 in baking sheet. Place turkey mixture on the buns. Place cheese slice onto the turkey mixture. Place in broiler until cheese is melty. Top with optional baby spinach and the top bun. Serve and enjoy!
