Homemade Sausage Gravy2

Ingredients

  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 lb regular or hot Jimmy Dean Sausage (I prefer regular)
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 can refrigerator biscuits

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350
Place sausage into frying pan and cook until done.
Warm half and half and milk for 5 minutes in microwave
Add butter to sausage and let melt.
Add flour and stir for at least 3 minutes (making a roux and cooking the flour taste out)
Slowly add milk mixture to roux and continually stir clearing the bottom until gravy is thick. (I will usually turn the heat up slightly to help thicken faster, but you have to watch it or it will scorch.
While gravy is thickening, place biscuits in oven as instructed on container.
Go back to stirring the gravy. Once thickness you like remove from the heat and let sit for 5 minutes as you wait for the hot biscuits to finish.
Add salt and pepper to taste

Serve with fresh sliced tomatoes if you have them.
Of course I could eat a fresh sliced tomato on a biscuit alone...
Always good with lots of pepper.
