Steamed Pork Buns

This recipe is not complicated, but it takes a little while to make since you have to make the dough. They are great, though.

You'll need a steamer (like the insert to a rice cooker for steaming veggies) and parchment paper.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 2/3 c water
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 c cooked, shredded pork
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1/3 c water
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 c soy sauce
  • 2 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sugar

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and butter. Add water and knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let stand at least 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a skillet. Add pork and green onions. Saute 1 minute. Mix cold water and cornstarch. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce and sugar to skillet, then add cornstarch. Heat till thickened, then let cool slightly.

Roll dough into a roll and divide by 12. Roll each piece into a ball, flatten and place filling on center. Spread water on edges and fold over, pressing to seal.

Place on parchment paper, seam down, and steam 10 minutes.
