Ingredients

  • 1 lb mild or hot ground Italian sausage (Johnsonville)
  • 1 med onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cans (14 1/2 ozs each) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 T brown sugar
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 t dried oregano
  • 2 t dried basil
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/2 t dried thyme
  • 1/4 c minced fresh Basil, divided
  • Hot cooked pasta

Preparation

Step 1

In lg skillet cook sausage & onion over med heat 7-8 min until sausage is no longer pink & onion is tender. Add garlic; cook 1 min longer. Drain. Transfer to 3 qt. slow cooker.

Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce & paste, brown sugar, bay leaves, oregano, dried basil, salt & thyme. Cover & cook on low 6-8 hrs.

Discard bay leaves; stir in half of fresh basil. Serve with pasta. Top world remaining basil.
