Grilled steak with red wine mushroom sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 scallions, coarsley chopped
  • 3/4 lb mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 4 NY strip or sirloin steaks
  • 2 Tbsp butter

Step 1

In a non-metalic dish, combine 1/2 the garlic, and red wine, soy sauce, vinegar, thyme, and pepper. Coat steaks, cover and marinade in fridge for 2-3 hrs. (turn ocasionally)

In skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add remaining garlic, plus scallions, and mushrooms. Cook until mushrooms start to give their liquid (2-3 min). Slowly stir in flour and cook until flour is absorbed (30 sec.)

Remove steaks from marinade (reserve). Stir marinade into the skillet and cook until it boils and thickens (1-2 min). Reduce heat to low and simmer until steaks are done. Serve steaks with sauce.
