Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tb sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup crushed cornflakes
  • Filling:
  • Granny Smith Apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Glaze:
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • water

Preparation

Step 1

Combine flour, sugar, and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening. Place egg yolk in glass measuring cup and add milk to 2/3 cup, mix together. Add egg/milk mixture to dough. Divide dough into two parts. Roll out one part to fit into a 9 X 13 cake pan. Sprinkle crushed cornflakes over rolled out crust in pan. Add sliced apples to fill crust. Combine sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle over apples. Roll out second part of dough and place on top. Pinch edges of dough together to form a sealed crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes. Just before taking out of oven, combine confectioners sugar and just enough water to make a glaze. Pour glaze over hot apple bars directly out of the oven. Let cool and cut into squares.
