Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil

  • 1

    lb fusilli,or elbow macaroni

  • 1

    qt milk

  • 1

    stick unsalted butter

  • ½

    cup flour

  • 12

    oz grated Gruyere cheese

  • 8

    oz grated sharp cheddar

  • 1

    tbsp salt

  • ½

    tsp black pepper

  • ½

    tsp nutmeg

  • ¾

    lb tomatoes, sliced

  • cups breadcrumbs

Directions

-heat oven to 375 degrees while bringing large pot of salted water to boil -drizzle oil into water and add pasta until cooked, then drain well -heat milk in saucepan,do not boil -melt 6 tbsp butter in large pot and add flour all at once -cook over low heat stirring w/ whisk -whisk in hot milk and cook for 1-2 more mins,until thickened and smooth -remove from heat and stir in cheese, salt,pepper and nutmeg -add pasta and stir well,then pour into 9x13" baking dish -arrange tomato slices on top -melt remaining butter and toss w/ breadcrumbs and coat evenly on top of casserole -bake for 30-35 mins and rest 5 mins before serving
