Ingredients

  • BOTTOM:
  • 3/4 cup shortening (1/2 butter)
  • 3/4 cup icing sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • MIDDLE:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut
  • TOP- Orange-Lemon Icing:
  • 1 1/2 cups icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350F. Cream shortening and icing sugar. Blend in 1 1/2 cups flour. Press evenly in bottom of ungreased baking pan, 13x9x2 inches. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

Mix remaining ingredients; spread over hot baked layer and bake 20 minutes longer.

Icing: Mix icing sugar, melted butter, orange juice and lemon juice until smooth and of spreading consistency. While bar is still warm spread with icing.

Cool; cut into 1 1/2 x 2 inch pieces (30 bars)
