Baked Apple Doughnuts

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 apple, grated
  • Coating
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon



Step 1

Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Mix milk with the egg and grated apple, add milk mixture to flour mixture. Mix thoroughly all together. Fill muffin pan 3/4 full. Bake 20-25 minutes in 350ºF oven. For coating, mix sugar and cinnamon together. As soon as doughnuts are done, take out and dip in melted butter and roll in sugar and cinnamon mixture. Eat while hot.
