Ingredients

  • crust;
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • dash salt
  • 6 tablespoons crisco
  • no more than 4 tablespoons ice water
  • ---------------------------------------------------

  • 9-10 apples( preferably greenings or another tart apple)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 2 tsp cinnamon ( or more) cinnamon
  • dabs of butter

Preparation

Step 1

mix flour, sugar, and salt. cut in crisco until crumbs are formed. add water slowly,, gathering mixture with the hands into a ball. roll out half of the dough on lightly floured surface to from a bottom 9-inch crust. set in pie plate. roll remaining dough for top crust. set aside

peel apples; core and slice. mix with sugar and lemon juice. add cinnamon. place over bottom crust; dot with butter.

place top crust. seal edges. cut vents and prick the top of the crust with a fork. brush lightly with milk.

bake in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes. reduce heat to 350 for another 45 minutes or until crust is lightly browned. ( place a cookie sheet in the oven to catch the drips)
