Slow Cooker French Onion Soup

Place onions, butter, sugar, and salt into the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker
- 4 large onions, sliced
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 quarts beef broth, no sodium added
- 1/4 cup sherry
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
- Pepper to taste
- 1 cup croutons plain
- 8 ounces gruyere cheese, sliced (can substitute with swiss if needed)

- 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 pound turkey cutlets, cut into 1/2-by-2-inch strips
- 2 cups frozen corn kernels
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Freshly ground pepper to taste
