Mom made these, much to our dismay, every Christmas
- 2 cups brown sugar 2 cups dates pitted and chopped
- 1 cup crisco 1/2 cup nuts chopped
- 1 cup margerine 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup lukewarm water 1 cup water
- with 2 tsp.baking soda 1 tsp vanilla
- 6 cups flour

- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 egg whites, lightly beaten
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup dried currants

Aunt Irene always made these cookies for Christmas
- FROSTING:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 teaspoons soda (put in buttermilk)
- 1 cup molasses
- 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves
- 6 cups flour
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 5-1/2 tablespoons water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
