- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup water OR
- 1/4 cup water and
- 3 tablespoons water (or Grand marnier or bourbon)

- SWEAT:
- 2 2cups diced onions
- 1 1green bell pepper, seeded and diced
- 1 1Tbsp. minced fresh garlic
- DEGLAZE:
- 2 2cups root beer
- 2 2cans pinto beans (15 oz. each), drained and rinsed
- 1 1can tomato purée (10.75 oz.)
- 1 ⁄2 1/2cup ketchup
- 1 ⁄4 1/4cup packed dark brown sugar
- 2 2Tbsp. each Worcestershire sauce and cider vinegar
- 1 1Tbsp. prepared yellow mustard
- 1 ⁄2 1/2tsp. each Tabasco sauce, root beer extract, and kosher salt
- FOR THE TOPPING, PULSE:
- 3 3slices white bread, buttered
- 2 2Tbsp. minced fresh parsley
Potato Leek Soup

This soup is thick, and hearty, and very comforting
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 leeks, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons thyme
- 6 potatoes, scrubbed and thinly sliced
- 4 cups chicken stock
- 1/2 cup white wine (Optional)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup smooth peanut butter
- 4 ounces (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/3 cup packed light-brown sugar
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar, plus more for rolling
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup raspberry jam
Mexican Chocolate Flan

You don't have to wait for Cinco De Mayo for an excuse to make this creamy dessert
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 6 ounces Mexican chocolate, such as Ibarra, coarsely chopped
- 1 1/3 cups half-and-half
- 1 1/3 cups whole milk
- 1 (1 1/2-inch) cinnamon stick, preferably canela* (I used regular cinnamon)
- 5 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon coffee liqueur, such as Kahlúa
- 3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract
- Ingredient info: Canela, also called true, Mexican, Ceylon, or Sri Lanka cinnamon, is a less pungent variety than the cassia cinnamon commonly used in the United States. It's available in specialty shops, some supermarkets, and online from Penzeys Spices.
Strawberry Lemonade Sangria
