Preheat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside

- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Filling:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1 7.5-ounce jar marshmallow fluff
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup crushed peppermint candies (about 50 peppermint discs)

Layered Shrimp Dip

Blend together the first 6 ingredients and spread in shallow dish or pizza pan

- 1 Tbs. lemon juice
- 1/2 small onion, diced

- 3/4 jar chili sauce

- 1 cup sharp cheese, grated
Best French Onion Soup

The last recipe I posted for French Onion soup was from Cook’s Illustrated and the soup came out great
- Soup
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter , cut into 3 pieces
- 6 large yellow onions (about 4 pounds), halved and cut pole to pole into 1/4-inch-thick slices (Make sure you get Yellow)
- Table salt
- 2 cups water, plus extra for deglazing
- 1/2 cup dry sherry
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth (They recommend Swanson Certified Organic Free Range Chicken Broth )
- 2 cups beef broth (They recommend Pacific Beef Broth)
- 6 sprigs fresh thyme , tied with kitchen twine
- 1 bay leaf
- Ground black pepper

- 1 small baguette , cut into 1/2-inch slices
- 8 ounces shredded Gruyère cheese (about 2 1/2 cups)

Deviled Ham, Your Way

In a food processor, pulse all the ingredients until spreadable
- 1/2 pound prosciutto cotto or mild imported ham, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped red onion
- 1/3 cup (a small handful) flat-leaf parsley
- 1 rib celery with leafy tops, coarsely chopped
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce, such as Frank's RedHot
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 small red chile pepper, seeded and chopped
- 1 clove garlic, grated or pasted
