No more satisfying dish exists than hot cereal on a brisk morning
- To sweeten, try one (or more) of these:
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons fruit-flavored syrup
- 2 tablespoons raisins or other dried fruit
- 2 tablespoons apple butter
- 2 tablespoons favorite preserves
- For crunch, add one (or more) of the following:
- 1/4 cup granola
- 2 tablespoons chopped, toasted nuts
- 1/4 cup trail mix
- 1/4 cup bran cereal
- 1/4 cup wheat germ
- Or, just for fun, try this:
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon orange or lemon zest

- 24 medium fresh asparagus trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 oz. chopped onion
- 1 garlic clove crushed
- 1 1/2 medium chopped tomato
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon oil
- 1/4 cup canned green chili peppers
- 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
- Assorted raw vegetables and tortilla chips
Breakfast Casserole

Cube the bread and place it in a lightly greased 8-by-11-by-2 inch casserole
- 4 slices white bread
- Butter, for greasing
- 1 pound mixed mild and medium sausage, such as Salt Lick sausage
- 2 cups half-and-half
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Pinch of pepper
- Dash hot sauce
- 6 beaten eggs
- 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced, optional
- 1 1/2 cups thinly sliced, cooked unpeeled red potatoes
- 1 cup grated Cheddar
- 1 cup grated Monterey Jack cheese
