Crock Pot Cinnamon Almonds

Use a 4-quart slow cooker
- cooking spray
- 1 1/2 cups sugar (try not to freak out on me)
- 3 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 egg white
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 1/4 cups whole raw almonds (that's what was in the packages I bought; it's a weird measurement)
- aluminum foil or parchment paper
- my friend also added to the cinnamon sugar mix some nutmeg. it was great!
Dark Chocolate Pecan Pie

A chocolate topping makes this traditional pie a little trendier
- Pastry for a single-crust 9-inch (23-cm) pie
- 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) pecan halves, toasted
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup (175 mL) dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) corn syrup
- 2 tbsp (25 mL) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tsp (10 mL) vanilla
- 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) coarsely chopped
- good-quality bittersweet chocolate (about 3 oz/90 g)

Thaw pastry. Cut into length wise strips using a pastry wheel
- 1 package Pepperidge Farm Frozen Puff Pastry
- 1 egg and 1 TBSP water, mixed together
