Sufganiyot (Israeli Jelly Donuts) Recipe

While latkes are the snack most commonly associated with Hanukkah, sufganiyot are more commonly consumed in Israel
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting the baking sheet and rolling out the dough
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 (1/4-ounce) packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
- 2 large egg yolks
- 3/4 cup warm whole milk (105°F to 115°F)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/4 stick), at room temperature
- 6 cups (1 1/2 quarts) vegetable or canola oil, for frying, plus more for coating the bowl
- 2/3 cup smooth jam or jelly
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Roasted Pear and Caramel Trifle

1. To roast pears, preheat oven to 400ºF (200ºC)
- Roasted pears:
- 10 large ripe firm Bosc pears
- 2 tbsp (25 mL) butter, melted
- Custard:
- ½ cup (125 mL) sugar
- ½ cup (125 mL) flour
- 1 qt (1 L) 18% cream, divided
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
- Caramel Sauce:
- ¼ cup (50 mL) water
- 1 cup (250 mL) sugar
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) butter
- ¾ cup (175 mL) whipping cream
- ½ tsp (2 mL) vanilla extract
- Assembly:
- 7 oz (200 g) ladyfingers
- 2 tbsp (25 mL) rum or apple juice
- 1 cup (250 mL) whipping cream
- 1 ripe red pear
Sugar Glazed Pecans

Preheat the oven to 250 F
- 4 eggs, whites only
- 1/2 cup champagne or ginger ale
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 cups sugar
- 8 cups pecan halves
Kentucky Apple Cake

Follow the above steps to make the cake batter
- CREAM IN A LARGE BOWL OR STAND MIXER:
- 2 stk margarine
- 2 c sugar
- ADD:
- 2 large eggs
- IN A SEPARATE BOWL, COMBINE:
- 2 1/2 c all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- ADD DRY INGREDIENTS TO THE MARGARINE MIXTURE. MIX IN:
- 3 c finely chopped apples
- 1 c chopped walnuts
- 2-3 Tbsp milk
- GLAZE:
- 3/4 c sugar
- 1/2 c margarine
- 1/4 c buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp light corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp real vanilla extract

1 Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 12-cup fluted tube pan or 10-inch tube pan
- 1-1/3 cups (8-oz. pkg.) HEATH BITS 'O BRICKLE Toffee Bits, divided
- 1-1/4 cups sugar, divided
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 container (8 oz.) dairy sour cream
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
- POWDERED SUGAR GLAZE (recipe follows)

- 4 beefsteak or assorted heirloom tomatoes,
- thinly sliced
- 2 cucumbers, peeled, halved lengthwise, seeded
- and thinly sliced
- 1/2 large red onion, sliced paper-thin
- Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
- For the feta vinaigrette:
- 1 cup olive oil
- 2 Tbs. dried oregano
- 1 Tbs. finely minced garlic
