To prepare cake, grease and flour two 9inch cake pans and line bottoms with parchment paper (cut circles to fit)

  • For the Cake:

  • 2 lemons, zested
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • For the Filling:
  • 4 oz unsalted butter
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp lemon curd, divided
  • For the Topping:
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

1. In a saucepan, melt butter

  • FROSTING:
  • 1 1 3 cup plus 3 tablespoons butter, cubed
  • 3/4 3/4 3/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 4 4 4 large eggs
  • 2 2 2 cups sugar
  • 1-1/2 1-1/2 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 6 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2-2/3 2-2/3 2-2/3 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 1 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 to 1/3 1/4 to 1/3 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 2 13-in. 9-in. 350° 25-28 a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack.
  • 3 3 2 . For frosting, in a large bowl, cream butter and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in cocoa and vanilla. Add enough milk until the frosting achieves spreading consistency. Spread over brownies. Cut into bars. Yield: 2 dozen.
