Winter Fruit Compote

Place pear, apples, oranges and raisins in 2 qt
- 3 firm-ripe pears, quartered and cored
- 3 baking apples, quartered and cored
- 2 oranges, peeled and chunked
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
Fried Green Tomatoes with Dijon Pepper Dipping Sauce

This recipe is a new twist on one in the lady & sons savannah country cookbook
- Dijon Pepper Dippin' Sauce:
- 3 or 4 large firm green tomatoes
- Salt
- 2 cups vegetable or peanut oil for deep-frying
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- Dijon pepper dippin' sauce
- 1 cup dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp. white pepper
- 4 tbsp. coarsely ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp. red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp. whole peppercorns
Kielbasa and Cabbage

1. Combine all ingredients in slow cooker 2
- 1 1/2 lb. head green cabbage, shredded
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 3 medium red potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2/3 cup white wine (sub)
- 1 1/2 lbs. polish kielbasa cut into 3 inch long links
- 28 oz. can cut-up tomatoes with juice
- 1 tbsp. mustard
- 3/4 tsp. caraway seeds
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 3/4 tsp. salt
Peach Muffins

Beat egg. Stir in milk, shortening, sugar, salt, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla
- Apple Muffins:
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted shortening
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla
- 2 cups unsifted flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 cup unpeeled, chopped fresh peaches
- Banana Muffins: Use only 1/3 cup sugar and 1/2 cup milk in recipe above. Use 2 tbsp. drained crushed pineapple and 1 cup mashed bananas in place of peaches
- Use apples in place of peaches

1. Heat oven 375 2. Melt the butter in a heavy-bottom medium saucepan over low heat
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 1/4 cups bread flour
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tsp. baking soa
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tbsp. milk
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

The Original Chex Party Mix

- 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp. onion powder
- 3 cups corn chex
- 3 cups rice chex
- 3 cups wheat chex
- 1 cup mixed nuts
- 1 cup pretzels
- 1 cup garlic-flavor bite-size bagel chips or reg. size bagel chips. broken into 1-in. pieces.
Vanilla Ice Cream (freezer)

Beat eggs until light. Add sugar gradually, beating until mixture thickens
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 6 cups milk
- 4 cups heavy cream
- 2 tbs. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Frozen Salad

Mix all together to pour into muffin tins or 1 qt
- 2 cups sour cream
- 1 large can crushed pineapple
- 1 4 oz. bottle maraschino cherries with juice
- 2 slice bananas
- 1 cup grapes
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup pecans ( optional)
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice (optional)
Deep Fried Beef with Dip

Beat the steak slices until very thin
- 1 lb. rump or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. hoisin saue
- 1/2 inch slice ginger root, peeled and grated
- 1 tbsp. tomato puree or catsup
- 1 tbsp. chili sauce
- 4 tbsp. soy sauce (additional)
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch
- 2 egg whites
- Oil for deep frying
- 6 green onions, sliced into matchstick pieces

- Frosting:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 sticks butter
- 4 tbsp. cocoa
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 stick butter
- 2 tbsp. cocoa
- 6 tbsp. buttermilk
- 1 box powdered sugar (3 1/2 cups) Maybe 4-5 cups is better
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup nuts (added last)
