  • 4 slices white bread, torn into pieces
  • 1 3/4 pounds ground beef
  • 3/4 pounds ground pork
  • 1 medium yellow onion, cut into eighths
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 stalks of celery, cut into 2- inch pieces
  • 2 carrots, peeled and cut into 2- inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup flat leaf parsley
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 4 tsp. dry mustard. (Martha's mother used Coleman's)
  • 1 T. coarse salt
  • 2 tsp. freshly ground pepper
  • 2 T. packed light brown sugar
