  • 1 1/2 cups warm buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 teaspoons corn syrup
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3-4 tablespoons whipping cream or evaporated milk
  • Vanilla Simple Syrup:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large vanilla bean, cut in 4
  • Vanilla Buttercream:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla paste or 2 teaspoons pure vanilla
  • (cream or water if required, to whip icing to correct consistency)
