Chicken Cacciatore with Orzo

- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 pounds bone-in chicken parts (breasts, legs and thighs), breasts halved crosswise
- Salt and pepper
- 1-1/2 cups orzo pasta
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- One 8-ounce package mushrooms, thickly sliced
- One 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes
- One 8-ounce can tomato sauce
