- 1/2 c shortening
- 1/2 c butter, softened
- 2/3 c brown sugar
- 1/3 c maple syrup
- 1 egg
- 2 3/4 c all-purpose flour
- 3/4 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg

- 3 cups nonfat beef broth (beef is the best) or 3 cups nonfat vegetable broth (beef is the best) or 3 cups nonfat chicken broth ( beef is the best)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 cups chopped cabbage
- 1/2 yellow onion
- 1/2 cup chopped carrot
- 1/2 cup green beans
- 1/2 cup chopped zucchini
- 1/2 teaspoon basil
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano

- 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1 T baking powder
- 1/2 cup cold butter
- 1 cup to 2 cups chopped dried fruit, chocolate or other flavored chips, nuts, or a combination, optional
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract or the flavoring of your choice
- 1/2 cup to 2/3 cup half & half or milk
