Sausage and Rice Pot

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1-2 pounds fully cooked polish sausage cut into slices
- 1 large onion, halved and sliced
- 1 medium yellow or orange pepper cut into thin slices
- 1 red pepper cut into thin slices
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups shredded cabbage, about 1/2 a small cabbage
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon chicken soup base
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- 1 teaspoon Forward seasoning
- optional 1 teaspoon caraway seeds

Preparation
Step 1
In a large soup pot heat the oil over medium heat. Add the sausage, onions, pepper strips and garlic. Cook about 5 minutes. Add the water, cabbage, rice, brown sugar, vinegar, soup base, pepper and forward seasoning. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium low . Cover and simmer 30 minutes.
