Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1-2 pounds fully cooked polish sausage cut into slices
  • 1 large onion, halved and sliced
  • 1 medium yellow or orange pepper cut into thin slices
  • 1 red pepper cut into thin slices
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage, about 1/2 a small cabbage
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon chicken soup base
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Forward seasoning
  • optional 1 teaspoon caraway seeds

Preparation

Step 1

In a large soup pot heat the oil over medium heat. Add the sausage, onions, pepper strips and garlic. Cook about 5 minutes. Add the water, cabbage, rice, brown sugar, vinegar, soup base, pepper and forward seasoning. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium low . Cover and simmer 30 minutes.
