Sausage Balls in a Basket

You can make and bake the sausage balls in advance, cool them and freeze. Just before serving, preheat the oven and place the sausage balls in the phyllo cups and bake until hot. This recipe can be cut in half.

Ingredients

  • Sauce (optional):
  • 4 pkg (15 shells each) mini phyllo shells
  • 1 lb spicy pork bulk sausage
  • 1-1/2 cups baking mix, such as Bisquick
  • 1 cup shredded, reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 deg. Line a sided baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the mini phyllo shells on the baking sheet.

In a large bowl, combine the sausage, baking mix and cheese. Roll the mixture into 1/2 to 1" balls and place in phyllo shells. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the balls are lightly browned and cooked through. To make a dipping sauce, mix together the mayonnaise and Dijon.

Serve hot or warm with the sauce.
